Phishing Alert: China Higher-education Student Information and Career Center fraud

April 2nd, 2009 · No Comments

Websense® Security Labs™ ThreatSeeker™ Network has discovered a fake Ministry of Education Inquiry Web site in China.

CHESICC is a specialized body authorized by the Chinese Ministry of Education to assist in the verification of certificates and diplomas awarded in China. It’s the only database available for query of the country’s Higher Education Qualification Certificates.

The fake Web site uses the same name and a nearly identical interface as the real Web site. The fake site also pretends to have a diploma verification service.

Visitors to the fake site submit detailed information about their education and graduation, and other personal information. They may also pay money to get a fake copy of their diploma or certificate. Victims lose both money and their personal information.
