Taipei, Taiwan, June 30, 2009 – Gigabyte — represented in South Africa by Rectron, and a manufacturer of motherboards, graphics cards and other computing hardware solutions — reports it  is the top-ranked motherboard company in the “2009 Info Tech 100 Taiwan” list from Business Next magazine (數位時代雜誌) in Taiwan, achieving an overall ranking of 19th.

The Business Next evaluation studied 515 publicly traded Taiwanese IT companies and evaluated them according to four Business Week criteria:

  • Revenue,
  • Revenue Growth,
  • Return on Equity (ROE), and
  • Total Return.

In recent years, Gigabyte has introduced many industry leading technologies that contributed to its Number One ranking.

In 2006, Gigabyte was the first motherboard manufacturer to use Japanese solid capacitors in its  Ultra Durable motherboard series.

In 2007, Gigabyte launched the Ultra Durable 2 series of motherboards, which introduced ferrite core chokes and Low RDS (on) MOSFETs in addition to Japanese solid capacitors for added system stability, durability and overclocking performance.

In 2008, Gigabyte unleashed what it says is the industry’s most feature-rich energy saving technology – Dynamic Energy Saver and Ultra Durable 3 technology (the industry’s first consumer desktop motherboard design to feature 2 ounce copper PCB layers) sporting dramatically lower system temperature, improved energy efficiency and enhanced stability for overclocking.

All of these innovations from Gigabyte have subsequently become or are becoming motherboard industry standards.

During June 2009 at the Computex trade show in Taipei, Gigabyte unveiled more industry leading innovations that will be implemented on future motherboards. They include 24-phase power VRM design, Smart 6 technology that simplifies many Windows Vista and Windows 7 features, Smart Dual LAN and Smart TPM amongst others.

In addition to these announcements, Gigabyte also announced that all of its motherboards currently being shipped feature proprietary Dual BIOS technology and Japanese solid capacitors aaround the CPU VRM.

These two features have traditionally been reserved only for high-end products, but now are available on mainstream and even entry level motherboards from Gigabyte and are expected to contribute to the firms continued growth despite the financial crisis.

“It is indeed an honour to be the top ranked motherboard manufacturer in the ‘2009 Info Tech 100 Taiwan’ list, and we are draw immense encouragement from this news because it reinforces the Gigabyte strategy to innovate our way out of this economic crisis,” said Henry Kao, VP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing at Gigabyte Technology.

“We welcome other hardware vendors to follow Gigabyte’s lead with innovative technologies such as 2 oz copper PCBs, Japanese solid capacitors and multi-phase energy saving to drive the PC market to new heights.”
